of gatherings and farewells

Met up with a few of my primary classmates who are heading to the UK last fri. Thanks to HanYang for organising it! It was a dinner filled with laughter! Recalling all the fond memories of our childhood days together in Lick Hung. I’m glad to say I’m not the only one who thinks that we practically almost have no life during those times. And again, we felt so glad to have 林碧侦老师 (sorry, don’t know if it’s the right character), as our class teacher, she was the only teacher who didn’t cane us so often, spoke with kind and encouraging words and usually just frown at you and shake her head in disappointment at any misdeed we’ve done. It works better than all the canning that usually cause resentment instead of regret on wrongdoings. I’m sorry to say I’ve not gone back to see her again and express how grateful I am to have her as our class teacher throughout Standard 5 to 6. Facebook ftw btw, if not for it, this eventful meet would probably never happen.

credits to YaoSiang for the picture!

Saturday.
THANK YOU for the farewell dinner! Glad to meet up with you guys, and Choey Ling before she leave for Ireland again! I promise i’ll visit her there some day~
And thank you for the pendent that looks really expensive! O.o I know it is!
and the dinner and most of all the company! I appreciate that the most.
extra thanks to MinTze for fetching me back! :p
Can’t wait to meet up with you all for lunch again this friday!
These kind of things has no need for words to express how I felt. It’s comfortable and it’s familiar. Thank you for making me feel at ease with you all. Thank you all for being my friends.

Too bad I just got my new camera that day and have yet to charge the battery. Have to rely on you guys for pics.

IC Fresher’s Camp 2009

yeah, Imperial College Malaysian Society has their own fresher’s camp. That will probably give you an idea how many Malaysians there are in Imperial. I heard there are 100++ fresher’s this year although only 38 turned up for the camp. I never imagine there were so many people going! Imperial is definitely earning BIG BUCKS from international students. The annual tuition fees are like three times the local student’s fees! O_o

But ahh, this post is suppose to be about the camp~ It was awesome indeed although it’s only a short 3 days 2 night camp. (trips all seems so short when compared to the 5 days BTN camp, haha!) So on friday the 4th, my dad dropped me and yeechinn at the klcc lrt station and we took the lrt to KL Sentral which was our meeting point in McDonalds and I swear we did annoyed them a little with such a big group gathering there but hardly buying anything.

and guess who I saw there, Shari Lim! With her, me, YeeChinn and Shi Yunn, plus Han Yang who’s already in Imperial, it means there’s 5 previous Lick Hung 6K students studying in Imperial! I wouldn’t dream that I would be going to the same uni as my previous primary school classmates, and all 4 of them as well! It’s a blessing indeed!

Right, so we head off to PANGKOR (yes, our camp is in pangkor! how awesome is that?) on the bus and I got to know a few people in the bus including Steph (biotech) who sat in front of me, Michael and Winson who’s both taking Chem Eng (the most popular course). So they share their experience and I’m ashamed to say I have ZERO musical skills and ZERO sports skills. O_o ah well, time to be a bit thick face. :p
We got to know a lot of seniors too, in the ferry and all and it wasn’t hard to communicate with them as most of them are only a year older and some the same age as us! ^^
Checked in just as we arrived the resort, and the condition wasn’t bad at all, considering we paid only RM70 for the whole trip. (But I think we were sponsored as well..) I got into the same room with Kayla and XinNing (my taylor’s junior!)

Alright, before I start boring you with the details, let me jump straight to the fun parts, like getting into groups blindfolded and meow-meow-ing. Was in the same group as Zhi Xiong again~

Had one of the funniest senior MengKit as our faci:

and the next morning we went for KAYAK-ing after a game of frisbee. The last time I did it was with Che in temenggor, I Think? I didn’t plan to get wet at first, but with the waves and splashing of paddles, I was half drenched already. Paddling to the island opposite the beach I was surprised to see CORAL ISLAND on the rock and I was ohmygawd, I came here before! =.=” I did have the suspicion that the beach we’re on was teluk nipah : coral beach, but it looked pretty different and I couldn’t confirm for sure. For your info, I have been to this same beach for like gazillion times when I was younger. But i’m glad to visit the same place again to find the condition improving! ^^ The last time I was there, the beach was partly destroyed and the water oily. Now it’s much more clear and bluish, and the sand has smooth down by the constant tide that moves in. Unfortunately, the sandy beach is still pretty short, it used to stretch out further and we could camp on the higher sandy parts. And I didn’t see the temple at the end of the beach. Didn’t go that far, so I’m not sure if it’s still there.

So, apparently the seniors had their fresher’s camp on the same stretch as well, just different resort. We rested under the shaddy trees on the beach and went climbing on stones in coral island. Then we head off to another stretch of beach and roam about. As everybody head back when it’s times up, Michael who was sitting behind me suggested we go a big round around coral island instead of heading straight back and thus we sneak off to paddle the longer way. The annoying part was either the waves/wind/paddling stroke keeps veering out boat towards the right and every now and then we have to paddle it back to the correct direction. And my specs keep sliding down my nose and my arms tire easily… But surprisingly, I didn’t get much of a muscle ache the next day or the day after.

We had all sorts of fun indoor camp activities as well but describing them would be too long. So the highlight was the night performance in which all of us have to produce a sketch that includes singing and dancing. Almost all of the groups were awesome, their sketch brought tears of laughter into out eyes. One of the funniest was Ming Hui with his french accent! haha! Congrats to the winners, I’m sure they well deserve it and congrats to us all for doing better than the seniors! (or so they said)

one of our indoor games/activities~

Senor, seez wat small hips he havez, diz won’t do~

we performed spongebob squarepants~

Then we chatted with the seniors, got to know more about life in imperial till late at night. Besides all the fun we had, it was really useful (imo) getting to know the seniors and all the other freshers, getting all the useful information we're suppose to know, and gear up out spirits of looking forward into uni life! Of course, all the talk about how hard the courses will be scare us a little as well, but has yet to dampen our spirits~

ah i nearly forgot! Our mole! She's so cute and funny that nobody suspected! And we were in the same group some more! GOSH~ I won't share the details here but I was so surprised to know, didn't really expect it. I would have known if I checked out one of the senior's flickr photos in which he posted the link. But I didn't, so ahh…

our darling mole~

and she was sitting right beside me! can u imagine it?

the last morning has really biG wAvEs. We went for banana boating, it wasn’t as great as Redang’s one but fun nevertheless. Then we played along the beach with the waves. First time I have ever experienced such waves. I can finally imagine how people go for surf boarding. Though the water wasn’t deep, it was strong enough to push and pull you if you’re not anchoring yourself well into the sand. It was pretty fun though, rolling along with the waves cause we made sure we didn’t go in too deep. The boys were crazy though, they literally ran straight into the crashing waves and a couple of them lost their specs. Luckily I put mine away first. The last few round of waves scared us a little before we got off though. It was really strong and it just tumbled all over us and we were practically turning 360 degrees in the water due to the force. And when you try to get up, the water that rushes back into the sea pull you backwards. Took two or three rounds of crashing waves for me to get out. Glad to say we were all safe and sound and took a group picture before we head back to clean up.

banana boating 2nd group~

Trip back on the bus was filled with sessions of lame but funny trick questions and learning about imperial geek’s game. Am pretty bad in it though, since I don’t have good mental arithmetics.

Let the pics show how fun it was! ^^ Pics courtesy of Senior Faiz and Justin! Am just stealing them off facebook~
Senior Justin takes amazing bright and clear pictures with his dslr, rachel~

Other group discussion pic~

Winson, another winner of the best actor. We have three in total! that was how awesome we were~

The seniors had fun dumping people into the sea~

we split into frisbee/captain ball and volley/beach ball game~

we rock overall~

BTN

Well, BTN held in Rembau, Ulu Sepri is: yes, I still have to say it’s a brainwashing program. But it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be because I did learn something about the constitution and the special rights Malays have BUT why oh why must they repeat it all over again??? and SOME of them are pretty arrogant about it. Emphasizing that it’s their rights as if nobody should ever question it. And I got rather annoyed by one of the penceramah. It was just Ugh O_O. But SOME were pretty good, kind while explaining it and emphasizing more on common grounds that we share. And the young faci(s) make the camp much more enjoyable! Some of them were really funny! ^^
Another not so good point was the morning islam talks which was meant for the muslims. It was… *speechless* but I wasn’t listening most of the time so whatever~

Chong and Dixon

I met quite a lot of ppl who are going to imperial, so I wasn’t so lost when I went to the fresher’s camp. And I met YeeChinn! my primary classmate whom i’ve never met since… I last left primary school I guess? though we stay quite near. She in USJ12 and me in USJ16. Overall, it’s a great experience in the sense that I actually mix around more with malays and practice my malay language :p and I get to know other ethnics too! like Dixon from Sabah. Orang Murut if I’m not wrong. And it was great knowing that though we are from different race and background, we’re not all that different. I could actually share the same sentiments during our ‘interesting discussion’ among me, Chong, Nadia and Dixon. Yeechinn was listening too. (We’re all in the same group! hehe) But maybe it has something to do with Nadia being brought up in a more modern environment. And I got to understand to how some people feel about the situation in Malaysia, the reason why they want to come back to serve; to change for the better, and how some people are not as lucky and as sheltered as I am. The knowledge that there are people out there who are bright and talented and yet only managed to know about JPA scholarship because he happen to notice a line announcement on rtm1, have to borrow money just to fly to peninsular Malaysia sort of make me ask, What the HECK has the Malaysian Government been doing?

Our group with En. Rizal our faci~

Reimi? (sorry dunno how to spell), Nadia, Me

Even I can feel sometimes that we often ‘tersisir’ Sabah and Sarawak. They are as part of Malaysia as we are. And stop developing, making money by destroying trees. Bad enough our peninsular jungle has been replaced by oil palms estates, please don’t destroy the rich tropical rain forest on Borneo Island.

Back on the camp, it was a blessing getting to know Didi, she’s just so cheerful and laugh so often. Makes me feel perfectly at ease when talking to her! There are just some people who are like that, perfectly easy to talk to.
I realised my Malay isn’t all that great either cause I keep forgetting some basic malay words and couldn’t understand people when they speak in BM too fast. Glad that some of them can understand my half broken Manglish.

Our Kumpulan Empat dining table

I get to know so many other people going to UK (Ulu Klang) too, JiaLin, YiYing, EeLin, WernChia; Morocco : Yusra, Husna; Nadira and the rest, plus AUSTRACIA (sorry YiWei, couldn’t drop the joke) and SueLynn, the only one going to US (Ulu Sepri) who got into Columbia University! (wow, awesomeness~)

YeeChinn, Didi, Me and Yusra

Highlights of the camp was the ABSEILING we were given the chance to do! Wish I could practise though, we only got one chance and I know I didn’t do it well. :( And the thing that touched me most was the final activity on the last night in which I felt something similar to Unite2Ignite camp, but it wasn’t as strong. I could actually feel the unity in which each group were given parts of puzzles and we’re suppose to gather them together to patch it together. Sounds easy? Well the rules are we’re not allowed to talk, not allowed to stand, not allowed to ask other groups to give anything but we’re allowed to give. (I think the message they were trying to drive across works in the end) It took sometime for us at first to realise what we’re suppose to do and to gather other groups together in the center without talking! Someone came up with the brilliant idea to clap to get their attention and some of us did the same. Then as not everybody could gather together to work on it, we started to take turns. (although it took quite sometime to communicate this idea to everybody else) and the rest of us helped by the sides, like requesting cello-tapes to stick the puzzle together from the faci[s]. (without talking too!) Those who broke the rules were captured away and was rescued later by all the group leaders. And damn were the Faci[s] taunting us ( I think they were suppose to represent kuasa asing there) but I pointedly decide to ignore them. It really reminded me of the time when we make the Piccasso Project during the Unite2Ignite camp. Even though we’re bounded with such limits, we actually managed to complete it with success! Congrats to us all! I’m so proud of you guys, keep the unity strong within!

lo-ve, lo-ve, desu~

The night ended with a session of writing letter to our own mothers after viewing a video on how a mother was abandon by her successful kids. Many girls were crying, but me being such an un-emo person didn’t shed a tear. I’m guilt-ridden by it but it doesn’t mean I don’t love my mom because I do! And it really touched me when one of the faci who’s a mother relate the love, hopes and wish she have for her young daughter. Apparently they are going to post the letter we wrote to our mom! Yikes, I’ll be sorta embarrassed when my mom reads it! ><

It was sad we have to leave earlier on that day because my father have a meeting. No proper goodbyes and camwhore moments, but it was okay. So overall, the camp was pretty good. But I still haven’t change my mindset on how corrupted our government is at the moment and if nothing change, we definitlly won’t be seeing a very bright future here in Malaysia. Especially when the GAS and OIL runs out as it’s depleting now. Come on man, INVEST in SOLAR ENERGY! so much safer and friendly than Nuclear Energy! We have so much potential for it, Heck, we probably could even sell our electricity and reduce heat and global warming with solar panels! Why isn't Malaysia considering that option? Yes, it's expensive, but I believe not more than nuclear and the payback could easily cover the modal cost. It's a worth it investment!

I'm shouting into the wind. My words are not reaching the ears that should be listening.

p.s. Credits to Didi for most of the pictures!

Getting Ready

I want to type meaningful posts! but it always ends up consisting of petty stuff.

Right, Life Updates~
I got my VISA done.
Got the visa letter (finally!), got the agreement stuff (am in the midst of completing them), applied for visa WITHOUT the affidavit, and got back my passport with UK’s nice visa sticker pasted on it!

and I went for BTN camp! It wasn’t all that bad actually!
and am going to Fresher’s camp next week! (4th-6th of September)
Although it means I’ll be missing my chance to balik kampung for the last time before I fly to UK. Sadly…
Even more so after I promised I’ll see my cousins one last time before I go off.

Last but not least, I’ll be flying in a month’s time! YAY!
can’t wait to explore new places and start uni life. I hope I’ll be able to keep myself level-headed enough to make sure I don’t make a muddle of things and don’t get into any unwanted trouble.
Time to learn to be independent and take care of myself!
Gambatte Blur Yang Yang!

Kim’s awesome beatboxing.

yeah, this was part 2, just find among the links part 1.

Yep, I’m so proud of my old buddy here. i mean, how many people u know how to beat box, even more so here in Malaysia. Not only that, she self learned it over youtube and has been performing in many events! How awesome is that? I’m sure Shu echo my opinion over here too.

Other than that, it was just great meeting up WyHow and Lixian on Saturday (thanks again wyhow for fetching us!) and spending 2hours++ just rushing to see Kim perform in Times Square! Getting stuck at Summit Area traffic, squashing with SOO MANY PEOPLE in Ktm, lining up to get ticket to sit monorial! So yeah, luckily we manage to reach in time to catch at least 2/3 of kim’s performance. We didn’t do much that day besides hanging around, eating and chatting and checking out the ‘Bankers Club’ kim’s dad is kind enough to show us (boy, was it grand there.), but I just felt great meeting up with old friends. I always get this really comfortable feeling with them. and GOOD LUCK to Wyhow! He’s off to NUS this weekend! Hope you have a great time studying there~ ^^

i feel kinda lonely at home now ><

edit: adding the SS photos we took. Pics courtesy of lixian~

Arise from the Dead (2nd Time)

lol, after mentioning how dead my blog is during dinner, i decided to add some stuff here again ^^

So far, WELCOME BACK our taikarche from ireland, and all those lovely peeps aka pm9 classmates from UK. Will be joining you guys to UK this coming Sep 23 if I will ever get my visa done. i swear Imperial takes FOREVER to get my visa letter done and send over here to Malaysia. I’ll just cross my fingers and hope it arrives before the peak period hits.

I’ll start from the latest, which was last Saturday, we had our pm9 reunion dinner! Not all of them came, but a least about half did, namely IMU-ians, UK-ians, Monash, Ireland, not-doing-anything-ME, Miss Ko (for a while, and her baby darling is so tiny and cute) and Mr. Lai (with his hair spiked and looking much younger, totally approve his new hairstyle). Basically it’s good to catch up, have some dinner and chat with my old classmates! ^^

Going back to about a week or two before, we went Penang to bug my Xiao Yi and Aik Howe Gogo again! I’m so sorry we come to bother you guys and behave like irresponsible teens but we sure did enjoyed our time there. ‘WE’ here meaning me, lieshien and huili. We went back to have all the tasty food, including asam laksa, DUCK rice and porridge, braised chicken feet, Indian food, Beef noodles, DURIAN lunch, curry noodles, fish porridge, and lots of coffee with kaya butter toast! we spent our time lazing around, onlining and watching movies in ayi’s house as well. The only productive thing we did was visit the Penang Musuem during one of the afternoons out of the several days we were there. I’ll be attaching pics of us enjoying lovely durians when I upload them.

And I still owe you guys my China trip post. That one should be coming up soon.

edit: oh, btw, i lost my phone! Got robbed in Pasar Malam. Partly my fault, because I was using the environmental-friendly sort of huge bag and the thieves cut a slit in the bag and out pop my wallet and phone. I got lectured nicely by my parents, don’t think I’m ever going to get them to buy me a new phone and I lost all my contacts! And that phone didn’t even lasted a year, I’m so sad for my phone! But also thankyou to my lucky stars the thieves threw away the wallet into the vege basket and I got them back a few days later. At least I have no need to apply my IC and driving license again. but still, my poor phone… my only phone that has such nice camera, mp3 and so slim too… *sigh*

EDIT2: i swear i’m never going to ever blog bout my chine trip…
anyway here are cute ruihan pics and us eating durian! ^^

Picture of the Day, staring cute Lemon!
